First Haircut and Peek-A-Boo

I put the first two pictures on here backwards. You have to look at the bottom one and then the top one to see the real order in which this "stunt" takes place. Caleb chases Pokey down and then rolls over top of her. This makes Pokey rather nervous, but she seems to be taking it pretty well so far. Caleb thinks Pokey is really funny!

Are you ready Pokey? Here I come!!

Caleb and I reading...his favorite right now.

So Caleb got his first "real haircut" this past week. He was beginning to have a mullet in the back and that is not exactly the look we were wanting to go with for him! :) He actually did very good while he got his hair cut. I think I ended up with more of his hair on me than he did! He had to sit on my lap, but he absolutely refused to wear the cape. I have no idea why, but he got so mad every time they tried to put that little cape on him. We finally gave up and I told them to just not worry about it. He looks like a little boy!! So sad...

I tried to get a picture of Caleb holding his "first haircut" certificate that they gave him. You can see that didn't go so well.

Here is a video I took of him this past week. He thinks it is so funny to play peek-a-boo right now. He started out putting his hands over his ears, then they moved to his mouth and now for the most part he gets his hands over his eyes. He cracks us up because every time we get on to him for something (like pulling the electrical outlet covers off for the 100th time) he plays peek-a-boo. Guess he thinks it will distract us from the disciplining!! Haha Anyway, I accidentially posted the wrong video, so I just left it on here too...please ignore my obnoxious voice if you can.

A little of this, a little of that.

These first few pictures are of Caleb visiting my Mom and Dad's house this past weekend. He loves to go there and play and always sleeps good when he gets home!

Having fun!!
Papa showing Caleb the mistletoe

Caleb giving me some love while I'm trying to take my shoes off!

The days are flying by and Christmas is quickly approaching. We have had our first snow, which was beautiful!! Caleb was very serious about figuring out what this new white stuff was on the ground and trees. So serious, that he couldn't smile for a picture because he was concentrating too hard.

Caleb also met Santa Clause at the mall. I was very impressed with this Santa...best one I had seen in a while! Caleb just kind of looked at him and was trying to figure him out also. Picture is kind of blurry because I took it with my cell phone. I was too cheap to pay $25.00 for a picture so they let us snap this with our phone.

We have all kind of had the sniffles and coughs around here. Caleb has had a runny nose for a little over a week, which I attributed to teething because he always seems to get a runny nose when he is cutting teeth. Two night ago, he was awake pretty much most of the night wanting to be held, which is very opposite of what he normally likes. He would much rather just be put in his bed and left alone to sleep. I held him while he slept for about 3 hours and then Ricky got up and held him another two hours. We started thinking that it may not be his teeth because he just wasn't acting like himself. We took him to the doctor today to get his ears checked and sure enough he had an ear infection in his left ear. They gave him two antibiotics, so hopefully we will have our happy little Caleb back very soon! It's so pathetic to see him not feeling good.

We wrapped our first Christmas gifts last night and only have about 6 or 7 more presents to buy. Hopefully Ricky will watch Caleb one evening and let me sneak out of the house and do some shopping to finish it off! The first present that went under the tree was a present from Caleb to Daddy. Ricky has already made his guess of what it is, but I guess we'll have to wait until Christmas to find out.

Loving the Holiday Season!

We had a blast at Thanksgiving! My sister and her husband John and my nephew Andrew got to come up from Greeville, SC for a whole week. A week seems like a long time, but it goes by WAY too fast. I love getting to see them and now it is so much fun watching the boys interact. Andrew is 2 1/2 now. I think he liked Caleb better when he couldn't move because now Caleb wants to play with the same toys as he does!! haha Wish we got to see them more.

Best picture we could get of everyone minus Ricky because he was hunting.

Every year I say that "it just doesn't feel like Christmas yet". Well, this year it does feel like Christmas for the first time in a long time. I don't know if its having a child now, or that fact that I'm not working full time give me more time to actually think about it. I am throughly enjoying slowly getting the decorations out, baking some goodies and burning yummy smelling candles! We finished decorating our Christmas tree yesterday, but I'm seriously thinking about removing all the ornaments from the bottom of the tree. Christmas bulbs look just like Caleb's favorite toy - a ball! Yes, so he yanks them off the tree, eats some glitter of the ornament and then throws it as hard as he can. Yikes!! Thinking I may just have to have a weird looking tree this year.

Caleb is walking everywhere. He has also learned how to stand up now without holding onto anything. He rarely crawls now, but he also has lots more injuries now. Caleb had his one year appointment on Tuesday and he had a bruise on each leg, a scratch across his face, two bruises on his forehead and a busted lip. I was just sure that they may call the authorities on me!! The doctor just laughed and said "you must have a little daredevil".

Caleb with some of his new birthday toys.

Caleb is a healthy little peanut! He weighs 20 pounds now and is 29 inches tall. He eats like a little piglet, but has decided that he doesn't like milk. He will only drink water, so we will keep trying the milk I guess. And his newest love is books...if anyone every gets bored please come over and read Caleb a book because he wears us out wanting us to read constantly!!

Caleb chasing me down with a book while I try and take his picture.

Reading, again.

We felt very blessed last Christmas to have Caleb here, but he slept through all Christmas parties!! haha We are SO looking forward to Christmas with Caleb this year. Yeah, he still doesn't have a clue what is going on, but he loves to visit with everyone, tear the wrapping paper and at least he'll be awake for pictures this year!!

A few more Fall pics

Fall is my favorite time of year. Its not too cold yet, and the leaves are just beautiful! We had these pictures taken back in October when the leaves were at their peak. I don't think we were all three on top of our game that day, but I still liked the way they turned out.

My sister, her husband John and my nephew Andrew are coming in to visit this week for Thanksgiving. I'm sure I'll have lots of new pictures to post after their visit! I'm looking forward to time with family this week.

Happy First Birthday!!

We celebrated Caleb's 1st Birthday on Saturday. Sigh.... Such a mixture of emotions!! We had a small family party for Caleb at his Aunt Staci's house (as small as a party as you can have in the Boggess family!). It was so hectic that I didn't have time to shed a tear. Caleb had SO much fun at his party. He played, and played and played!!
I am always overwhelmed with the love that Ricky and I have from both sides of our families. I'm so thankful that Caleb has so many people that love him so much. Caleb of course was wondering what all the fuss was about, he had absolutely no clue what was going on.

I can never start to put into words how Caleb has changed our lives and even who we are. God has truly blessed us with a very HAPPY boy that makes everyone smile. He is very easy going, not to mention has slept through the night every night since he was 5 weeks old! The journey over this past year has been enlightning, adventurous, hard, fun, emotional and I wouldn't change it for anything!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

What?? Where has the time gone?

So it has been a while since I have posted. We have had major computer/internet problems, but I am back up and running. I just can't believe that it is November. I feel like time is slipping through my hands as I try and slow it down!

Every year Ricky's side of the family tries to take a big family trip to the mountains for a long weekend. Each year this gets harder as there are more and more family members each year! Somehow, we all made it to the moutains for a beautiful, relaxing and fun weekend. Fall is my favorite time of the year and I thoroughly enjoyed the time with family and taking Caleb to see the beautiful leaves. Here are some pictures from Canaan Valley:
Caleb always seems to lose his shoes very quickly!
I love this picture! Caleb loves to poke his fingers in our ears...disgusting I know. But this picture captures it perfectly.
This is Ricky's dad. A lot of people think Caleb looks like him.

Here are a few random pictures:
Caleb spending some time with Dad before he heads to the farm for the weekend.
Caleb pretty much just likes to eat the leaves.
"Mom, look how wide I have to open my mouth to fit this tiny stem in it"

We also took Caleb to visit some family in his Halloween costume. He was a giraffe. I think he would have much rather visited without the costume, but he was SO cute that he had to wear it. Inside, I could hear him saying, "Mom, seriously? I have to wear this big heavy giraffe costume all evening"? Anyway, we made it to about 3 houses until we were all ready to crash.
Ha ha This was taken before we made it to any houses...

Cutest giraffe I have ever seen!

Caleb is into everything these days as I guess is normal for this age. His little personality comes out more and more each day. He is very curious (or nosy for that matter), funny, sweet and we love him more each day. I thought he was asleep for a nap the other day because he had been in his room not making a peep for about an hour. I pop my head in the door just to check on him and find that he had ripped his whole curtain down and was playing with the curtain rod in his crib. The look on his face was priceless when I found him...all I could do was laugh along with him! He also has learned how to open all the cabinets, open the CD player and also start the CD player in his room, he is very good at tormenting our dog Pokey and anything else he can find to get into.

Well, the dreaded day is quickly approaching. I know I shouldn't dread it, but I do. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Caleb's first birthday is just about a week away. November 14th marks a day that I certainly will never forget. Caleb came into our lives and turned our worlds upside down in a completely wonderful way!! This coming from someone who always said that I never wanted kids... Life is a lot more complicated and tiring now, but I would not change it for anything. I feel like God dropped the biggest blessing ever in our laps when Caleb was born. I can remember bringing that little bundle home from the hospital and thinking, "Okay, what do we do with him now"?? Well, here we are a year later and I guess we all survivied it! I guess for me, he is quickly changing from a baby and into a little boy and it breaks my heart. I just want to be able to hit a pause button and enjoy him at this stage. So I'm not a party planner, but we have planned a little family party with a fire engine theme. Should be fun!!

Here are a few more pictures for your enjoyment :)

Caleb "hugs" Pokey daily.

Love my little guy SO much!

The Best News Ever!!

Our hearts are overjoyed right now!! Ricky and I have been praying and seeking God's pefect will for our lives and future. We were finally coming into acceptace that we may never get to have any more children after the scare we have had with cystic fibrosis. We were just thankful that we had one healthy child from God. The doctors had no answers for us and our future since they knew nothing about the mutation for CF that I had passed down to Caleb. They told us that he may get more colds than other kids, his cold may be worse than other kids, basically they had no clue what to tell us. They knew he didn't have full blown CF, but didn't know whether there would be any other side effects.

After 10 long months, we finally got the call we had been praying about. I spoke with the genetics person we had met with last January. She explained that her and the CF doctor in Charleston had done a study on the two mutations that Ricky and I had passed Caleb to see how they reacted in other babies. It is complicated, but there are thousands of mutations for cystic fibrosis and therefore thousands of combinations of mutations that could be made. So they studied other kids that had the exact two that Caleb has to see what their outcome was. They found that the mutations that Caleb has cannot cause the disease. We already knew that he didn't have CF, but they have never been able to explain why. There are still so many unknowns of CF since they have not known about it very long.

So a long, complicated explanation to say that Caleb will never have any si effects form carrying these two mutations for CF and if we have any other children they cannot have CF either. Wow! We had specifically been praying that God would make it very clear about our future and what we should do and he sure answered it! Not that we're ready to have 5 more kids in the near future, but it is a huge relief to know that we can have more if we would like to. I'll be glad to completely put this behind us and move forward not ever having to worry about it again. God puts everything in our lives for a reason and He is still teaching us to lean on him daily!
Me and my boy - love him SO much!!

So, Caleb will never wear this outfit out again. WAY too many people asked if he was a boy or a girl that day. We'll save that outfit just to wear around the house. haha

Here he is ready for church!

We got him a tee ball set - hasn't quite figured it out yet. :) He loves any kind of ball to play with, he chases them around forever.

Our family is so blessed and we're thankful

A much needed vacation!

We all went to Clearwater, Florida this past week for a much needed vacation. It was Caleb's first "real vacation" and mine and Ricky's first week long vacation in four years. It was wonderful, relaxing, fun and I'm wishing I were still there. My parents invited us along on their vacation and it was so nice to have them there to help "play" with Caleb. Ricky and I definitely wouldn't have gotten out very much without their help!

Caleb LOVED the sand, beach, pool and everything else there. He is our little "explorer" and he did exactly that all week long. It was a chore chasing him all week and trying to keep him from drowning himself and eating all the sand on the beach!

Caleb is getting VERY funny. Here is what he did when I told him to say cheese:

He even had fun playing in the condo. In almost every picture he has a knot or bruise on his head. Here he is loving on himself in the mirror!
